Women and Enterprise

April 2010

Dear Friends,

I am delighted to be one of the founding members of a new Canadian initiative designed to support women’s enterprises through the creation of public policy, advocacy, collaboration, sharing of best practices and applied research.

The project is advanced by the Taskforce for Women’s Business Growth, a national and non-partisan consortium of prominent women business owners, small business training agencies, academics and industry associations.

After reading the background information, I hope that you will endorse our Blueprint for Economic Growth by signing a petition in support of our action strategy. Among other “asks”, we are requesting that the federal government create an Office for Women’s Enterprise and a Businesswomen’s Advisory Council which would report directly to the Prime Minister.

Female owned enterprises are important to the growth of our Canadian economy. Women retain majority ownership in over 30 per cent of our small and medium sized enterprises. In addition, over 900,000 of Canada’s 2.6 million self employed workers are female.

As our economy stands on the edge of change, now is the time to profile the roles that Canadian women play in our business environment in order that they may grow even stronger.

I would welcome your support.

With best wishes,

Penny
